More and more, professionals are starting to adopt various forms of social media for promotional and networking purposes. LinkedIn can foster professional connections; a Facebook page can garner likes and views; and a Twitter feed can broadcast easily readable sound bites of information. There are a lot of advantages to exploring this world, but there can also be downsides – chiefly, it can be a bit embarrassing if you use social media wrong or poorly.
Sometimes it can be hard to tell what’s going so wrong, but fortunately, as with most skills, social media proficiency can be taught. Allison Shields writes for Law Technology Today, “many lawyers forget that the key to social networking is actually networking.” Put that way it’s an obvious connection, but one that often goes overlooked.
